My new friend Professor Silly-Toes
I got my first gecko in October and was surprised by how much I enjoy her. Of course, you expect to like a pet when you bring them home, but she exceeded my expectations so much that I soon found myself wanting another little friend. My leopard gecko takes up quite a bit of space, so this time I chose something arboreal (with a smaller footprint) and welcomed a crested gecko. Her name is Professor Beatrix Silly-Toes, and she is an absolute delight! Right now, she’s in a temporary enclosure while my husband and I build her a castle.
Hi there, I’m Professor Silly-Toes
She’s only been home for about a month, and while she has eaten, it’s been a daily challenge. On mini roach night, she’s the best eater in town, but fruit night? Mmm... maybe later. Maybe.
I don’t need food, I can just lick my eye.
Last week, I accidentally spilled some fruit puree on my finger while handling her, and to my delight, she decided to help clean it up. She was actually eating—and I got tiny gecko kisses too! Best ever. Several days went by, and she continued to reject her daily offerings. So tonight, I dipped my finger in the puree on purpose, and she licked it all up. I repeated this several times, and she ended up eating about half the little cup. I think this will become part of our “Toesie Time” each evening, and I’m sure we’ll be the very best of friends.
I’m pretty sure this is the right way to use my bed.
